All Things Good

Wow, what a bang to the beginning of Spring! Friday it rained all day and all night, meaning soccer for Madison was canceled. Aside from that irritation (read as tremendous sadness for David) it meant that we didn't have anything scheduled Saturday morning, combined with me going to sleep earlier than I have in years, meant I slept for an obscene amount of time - truly awesome. Saturday night we went over to Bill & Nicole's house and I learned that you really shouldn't drink Crown Royal and 7-up as quickly as you think you can. Sunday was a whirlwind of activity, but we spent a bunch of time in the backyard getting new lights, fire, plants, etc... all set up. Add a power outlet for the hottub (which yes still isn't hooked up) and we'll have a mini-paradise! Plus in a month or two I'm hoping I can sit in the backyard and each peppers that are growing there! Then today we both went out to lunch with friends, sat on the roof-top patio and it's been in the 70's the whole time - can life get better? I submit that it cannot! Oh, unless you count the fact that I taught the last class of my course tonight - now granted I did agree to teach an MBA Business Law course starting in 2 weeks, but let's deal with that later, for now, it's all Spring time fun!

Big Bird

On the way to work this morning the radio mentioned that United Airlines is considering making obese people purchase two seats. While there were a number of people who called in to support the idea, there was a bunch of people that called and said it was discriminatory. They equated it to making blind people pay for a spot for their assistance animal. Some people called in and said they were 6'5" and 230 lbs and weren't overweight, but were just really big. Ok, I get all that, but let's be honest there are a large category of people who are obese and not due to some genetic issue, glands or anything else. They're obese because they eat 2 Big Macs, a large fry, an apple pie and spicy McChicken for lunch. I'm fine with the 6'5" guy not paying for an extra seat and I'm fine with the people who have sought medical help and can't lose weight not paying for an exta seat, but seriously the guy who can't put down the Snickers bar and boards the plane with an extra large milk shake - THAT guy needs to buy two seats. No it's not discriminatory, it's math. If you weigh the same as two people solely because you can't control yourelf, then you have voluntarily selected to fit in two seat. If you don't want to buy two seats, put the Zagnut bar down...

Boy Who Say What, Say What?

"On Saturday evening dozens of Navy SEALs parachuted from C-17 transport aircraft into the sea, making their way with inflatable Zodiacs to the Bainbridge." Yes, this is an actual quote from a news article about the pirate hostage. What I enjoy so much about it is the fact that it was casually inserted into the article. This was not a big point, a major wow moment or anything else, it was merely a brief mention of how the SEALs got to the ship. Why does this entertain me so much? Simple - let's disect this sentence and then ponder exactly what it means and why we just glance over it. "Saturday evening" - so it's dark out, not near any land or light over the ocean, so it's pretty much pitch black. "parachuted from C-17 into the sea" - as if jumping out of a massive plane wasn't enough, they decided to land in the ocean. That's right, it's now pitch black, parachuting into the ocean, this is getting hard. "making their way with inflatable Zodiacs" - oh so now we are carrying cargo when we jump out of planes in the dark into the ocean. Ok, so what else do we get from this? They weren't near the ship and had to inflat Zodiacs and travel to the ship. So the "real" translation of this sentence is that a group of people jumped out of a large plane, in the dark, parachuting into the ocean, far away from anyone, while carrying cargo. They then had to inflate their only means of transportation and then travel to a ship bobbing around in the ocean. Awesome! This is why the U.S. military rocks and always will.
Sitting and learning how to simultaneously post on website and facebook

It Just Got Interesting

So everyone won't shut up about Twitter. Here's the deal - I'm not doing it. Sure it may be cool and frankly the global "what are you doing" statements are the most entertaining part of Facebook, but that's not the point. I am affirmatively resisting the mass cow herd. How can I do this and still enjoy such random postings - easy. I just found out that the program I use to run my website (which automatically posts to Facebook) has added a mobile feature. Meaning I can post directly to my website and to Facebook no matter what I'm doing or where I am. I know, no more working and talking to people, now I can be intraverted and anti-social except for postings online!!!! Horray! Ok, seriously I am excited about it. One of my major issues with Facebook is it took time away from the website and as a result my postings dropped dramatically. Now, I can annoy twice as many people all at once! Ahh, and just in time for spring and summer.

Hot & Cold

This weekend was certainly a weekend of extremes! Friday was my birthday and we had a blast with family coming over. It was a lot of fun. Saturday was family day part II - as we went over to the Dougherty's for brunch, hung out there, went to see "I Love You Man" and then went to Texas Roadhouse. It was fantastic. So with so much "positive" stuff, how could the weekend end up bad? Well, last Thursday Micauley had the stomach flu and while he rarely misses school, he stayed home that day. He seemed to be better on Friday and we all just moved on assuming it was better. It was better for him! Sunday morning I woke up feeling miserable, but still tried to get ready to bring Micauley to Driver's Ed. I never made it. I certainly don't want to go into too much detail, so I'll say one word and hopefully that'll clear it all up - "projectile". Needless to say the rest of the day was spent in bed, sipping water and taking Advil in the hopes that I could kill over the fever and not become dehydrated. This morning was better, though I'm still at about 60% - I assume it's because 15 year olds can recover from this stuff quicker - their bodies are still new! Friday and Saturday were awesome, but Sunday and today are Karma's way of balancing that - I just hope it's all better before tomorrow as I have a big hearing that starts then... more on that later.
